Elect The Chair By-Law
Durham Region Council is considering a by-law to elect the regional chairman in the next round of elections, fall 2014.
The question would appear on the fall 2010 ballot:
Are you in favour of the Council of the Regional Municipality of Durham passing the necessary resolutions and by-laws to change the method of selecting its Chair from appointment by the members of Regional Council to election by general vote of all electors in the Region
YES NO
The proposed by-law (20-2010), the notice of meeting and the clerk's report (2010-A-7 ) are posted below.

Passed!
It passed after some rather offensive comments against it, notably by Scugog mayor Pearce, saying this was the start of the Region shoving things onto the lower tier municipality ballot. But wait - speaking of having no say...
The vote was 17-6 with 5 absent. Curious why some of those absent left just before the vote. Perhaps so they wouldn't be on record as opposing it?
However, don't hold your breath, it needs a 50% voter turnout, which has been historically near impossible to achieve. Start telling your friends to set aside some time to vote on E-day.
